Elizabeth "Tiz" Louise Barnes (nee Edwards) Obituary

July 15, 1956- June 1, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the sudden, but peaceful, passing of Elizabeth (Tiz) Louise Barnes (nee Edwards) on June 1, 2024 at the age of 67. Predeceased by her parents, Ann (Nan) and David Edwards.

Leaving to mourn, with countless memories of a life well lived, her loving husband of 48 years, Bob; daughter Erin Squires (Trent); and son Tim (Marie LaFreniere); her grandchildren, Grayson, Layla, Malcolm and Maya – to them she was Nana and she “loved them all to bits!” Also leaving to mourn with deep sorrow, her only sister, Jennifer Edwards (Roy Howell) and nephews Shane and Matthew Lovelace.

She also leaves brothers and sisters’ in-law David (Susan), Gordon (Beth), Elizabeth Howlett (Eugene) and her nieces and nephews. Special friends Dawn and Ray Gallant and Carol-Ann Hennebury. As well as many extended family and circles of friends including the Soiree Trefoil Guild, the Strawberry SUper Stampers, and many from the Church of the Ascension where she was active for over 40 years.

She was known affectionately to those who loved her as Tiz. She was a ‘Spencer girl’ and had the signature script handwriting to show for it. She was a generous and giving person who gave back to her community from a young age. She volunteered with The CLB for several years, an organization that meant a great deal to her father and where she would meet her beloved husband in 1973. She was a founding board member of the Home Again Furniture Bank, an organization near and dear to her heart, where she generously gave of her time and talent, making many friends along the way.

In her professional life, she spent many years working with CompuCollege in various roles before retiring from Atlantic Franchised Schools as a Vice-President. She then chose to return to work with the Anglican Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador where she was Administrative Assistant to the Bishop, Honourary Diocesan Treasurer, and member of the Diocesan Executive Committee and Finance Committee. She was installed as Canon of the Cathedral Chapter of the Diocese in 2010.

She loved to travel, and to spend time with Bob and her family and friends in Florida. She was creative and always had a craft (or two) underway. She loved to sing with the Ascension choir and loved nothing more than a good Anthem and a Carol Service. She was a beautiful person and if you knew her, you loved her.

Special thank you to Barrett’s Funeral Home and most notably Funeral Director, Reverend Jolene Peters for her compassionate support and guidance. Thanks as well to Breanna Green, Funeral Director with Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida for her kindness and professionalism.

Donations to Home Again Furniture Bank or the Church of the Ascension gratefully accepted.
