Alice L. Williams, 79, of Newton, passed away peacefully on
Saturday, May 25, 2024, at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in
Effingham.
Alice was born in Xenia, Illinois on June 25, 1944, the fifth daughter
of Paul Forsythe and Mildred (Gabbert) Anderson. She graduated
from Southern Illinois University in 1966 with a degree in Elementary
Education. She married Nelson Williams of Xenia on April 6, 1968,
and he predeceased her on May 28, 2002.
After a brief teaching career, Alice and Nelson moved to Newton
and she chose to focus her time on caring for her family and
raising her two sons. She was a talented seamstress and loved
rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. She also
enjoyed reading, puzzles, quilting, and playing bridge with her
friends.
Alice is survived by her son Mike (Valerie) Williams and his children
Alexandria, Aidan, Alison, and Anderson of Savoy, Illinois; her son
Andy (Suzanne) Williams and his son Jacob of Atlanta, GA; and her
sister Marsha Taylor of Marion, Illinois.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her
sisters Phyllis, Doris, Carol, and Judy, and her grandson Caleb.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 10:00
a.m. until 12 noon, Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Crain Funeral Home in
Newton. Interment will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park
Cemetery, Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform a random
act of kindness or plant some flowers or a tree. Donations can also
be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, an
organization that was close to her heart.
