Sarah "Joyce" Lewandowski, age 90 years old, died Saturday, May 18th, 2024, at son Steve's home in Louisville, Kentucky. On May 10th, 1952, she married Edward Joseph Lewandowski at Christ the King Cathedral in Atlanta, Georgia and was happily married until his death in 2016. Joyce leaves behind her surviving seven children: Dennis (June), David (Patti), Daniel (Tania), Steven (Sueanna), Gerald Lewandowski, Diane (Dave) Noonan and Donna DeWyse, 18 grandchildren: Victor, Eric (Janelle) Lewandowski, Sarah (Pete) Metropoulos, David Lee, Matthew (Lindsay), Evan Lewandowski, Kayla and Kyle Lewandowski, Ryan Noonan and Tiffany Brandell, Kristen (Jonas) Quintero, Kevin and Kacie Mix, Allyson, and Jason Dewyse, Samantha, John (Marrina) and Jacob Lewandowski, three step-grandchildren: Hannah (Jake) Meredith, Brenden (Emily), and Sean Carroll, 12 great grandchildren: Reese, Leo, Maryah, Donald Jr, Mia, Dominick, Anthony, Leeta, Carmen, Nora, Stella, Skyler, five step great grandchildren: Cooper, Palmer, Charles, Taylor, Cami, her sister-in-law: Alice Chmura, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Lewandowski, her husband Edward, and sister Kathryn.


Joyce was born March 6th, 1934 to the late Dovie Bates-Cochran and Lou Rainwater in Atlanta, Georgia and resided in Bay City, Michigan since 1953. Joyce's life was one of service to her family, church, and community. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. Upon graduation from high school, she married Ed and moved to Detroit, Michigan. After the birth of her first son Dennis, they moved to Bay City. Joyce became very active in St. Stanislaus Mother's Club where she started the hot lunch program. She became involved in the development of All Saints Central High School where she worked as a secretary until 1984. At age 50, she moved into a secretarial position with Bay Arenac ISD. Besides being involved in the schools, she devoted many years of musical service as a soloist, choir director and organist at several churches in the Saginaw Diocese including 20 years at St Hyacinth.


The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Hyacinth Church with Fr. Dale Orlik and Fr. Jose Cabrera concelebrating. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at Trahan Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., and on Friday at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish or the wishes of the family.
