Martha Jean O'Neal Obituary

Mrs. Martha Jean Horton O’Neal, age 89, of Bremen, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024. She was born February 25, 1935, in Carrollton, GA, the daughter of the late Pat Horton and the late Pauline Marlow Horton. Martha was a member of the Eureka Baptist Church and attended Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church in her later years. In her early professional life, she worked at Hubbard and Sewell manufacturing companies. She was also one of the first female bus drivers for the Carroll County school system.

Throughout her life, Martha enjoyed many activities, including sewing, quilting, and cooking. After playing basketball competitively in high school, she remained an avid sports fan throughout her life. Although known for her legendary biscuits and red velvet cake, she excelled most at being “Grandmother.” Spending time with her extended family was a love of hers. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, friends, and community. Her family will remember her as their matriarch who always laughed at the corniest jokes. Most importantly, she will be remembered for the love and care she gifted to everyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Eddie O’Neal, sister Charlsie Horton Lambert Sorbet, brother Wayne Horton, and sister Linda Horton Reid. Survivors include her children: Donice (Larry) Wood of Bremen and Donnie (Debra) O'Neal of Kennesaw, Georgia; grandchildren, Candi (Brandon) Potter, Rusty (Jennifer) O’Neal, Shannon Childers, Scott (Michelle) O’Neal, John (Sydney) LaSarge, Michael (Yun) LaSarge, Catrina LaSarge and Kameron Wood; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters Melba Holloway and Joan Meigs. In keeping with her wishes, the body will be cremated. A private burial will be held at a future date.

Memorial contributions can be made to: Family Hospice, 435 West Bankhead Hwy, Villa Rica, GA 30180.
