James "Ken" Kenneth Hewett Obituary

James Kenneth “Ken” Hewett, 89, of Hamlet, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.


He was born September 28, 1934, in Southport, NC, son of the late John William Hewett and Ronie Sellers Hewett.


Ken served our country in the United States Army. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Hamlet. During the majority of his working years he was a diesel mechanic. Ken was a devoted Christian man, mentoring numerous, and was a wonderful, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.


Ken could make and fix anything and was a master mason. He enjoyed participating in the Senior games and in prior years before his declining health, he devoted his time through community outreach at Hamlet House, formerly Summersett, having devotions with the residents. Ken will be greatly missed by his family who loved him dearly.


Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Rollins Hewett; son, Mark Hewett; and several brothers and sisters.


Ken is survived by his children, Sharon Hewett (Gino Tarantini) of Hamlet, Missy Bates (Kalon) of Rockingham, and Matt Hewett (Angie) of Mount Gilead; grandchildren, Michael Hewett (Christina), Geo Hewett, Philip Clayton, Joshua Clayton (Robin), Fredrick Brock, Ariel Davis, Kenneth Bates, Hannah Sanderson (Keithan), Peyton Rice, Mason Hewett, and Summer Hewett; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Levi, Sadie, Levi, and Raven.


Graveside services will be held private by the family.
