Matthew George Martin Obituary

Matthew George Martin (age 63) passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2024. Born in Detroit, MI and grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. He graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School and Michigan State University.

Matt met Heather through work at Ernst and Young. They married in December 2002 and moved into Harper Woods, Michigan. From there, they moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where they shared their life together and hosted many gatherings of family. Their relationship always brought family and friends together.

Working hard in healthcare project management with his team, Matt cared most about helping people in need. He dedicated time to supporting patients through his vocation and through many charitable causes. He also shared a passion for seeing the world with Heather. They traveled to many places together near and far to experience the world. He also loved spending time with his children and granddaughter and was their biggest supporter. He had a genuine interest in the details of their lives and wanted to know and be part of everything.

Matt's infectious positivity and inclusive nature touched the lives of everyone he met. Whether cheering on his Spartans or hosting gatherings on his boat as he captained the NC coastline, he had a gift for bringing people together and fostering a sense of community wherever he went.

Matt is survived by his loving wife Heather Ann Martin. He leaves behind his brothers Donald, David (Donna), Charles (Mary), and Christopher (Linda); his children James (Amanda) and John from a previous marriage to Kathryn; and his most loved granddaughter Grace. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He is predeceased by his parents Barbara & Donald, and his father-in-law Joseph Jackson.

We love you Dad, Uncle Fru, Beach Grandpa, Screaming Eagle, and Phi Delt Brother. You will be deeply missed. May you rest in peace.

Visitation will be held at the Verheyden Funeral Home at 16300 Mack Avenue Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM with a Rosary service 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024.
