Bernice Reta Pike Obituary

Bernice Reta Pike (Smith) of Kingston Ontario passed away peacefully and of natural causes at Kingston General Hospital on May 14th, 2024 just shy of her 94th birthday. Born Bernice Reta Hunt on June 26th, 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario to Charles and Florence Hunt. Married Cecil Smith of Toronto and raised their children Debbie, Ronnie, Lorraine, and niece Janis in Kingston after relocating there in 1965. Bernice dedicated her life to her children and helping those in need. Working various jobs since her teens her greatest accomplishment was her long career as a nurses aid at St. Mary’s Of The Lake Hospital. She was honored there by her co-workers and physicians for her gentle kindness and dedication to the patients, never missing a day of work. Nearing her retirement she met and married Allan Pike and enjoyed many happy years together with family and friends at their trailer on the Rideau Canal. Although not formally educated she thrived on reading, often a book a day. She enjoyed country music, Legion events, and daily conversations with her children, grandchildren, and siblings (Jean, Shirley, Keith - deceased), and Ruthie. Fiercely independent, she was able to live on her own until her passing with the help of dedicated home-care helpers and her dear friend Betty (Last name). She is survived by her sister Ruthie, children Debbie, Ronnie, and Lorraine, grandchildren Tammy, Joey, Chloé, Claudia, Laura, Kate, Christopher, great grandchildren, José, Mariana, Constance and great great grandchildren Gabriel, Luke, Brandon and Kierstin. A celebration of life for Bernice will take place in July, 2024.
