Mabel E. Bitzer Obituary

Mabel Eileen (Kiger) Bitzer of Frankfort, KY passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 at the age of 88. She has been reunited with her husband, Dr. Morris J. Bitzer, to whom she was married for 54 years. She is survived by her three children, Jay (Karen) Bitzer, Melanie Bitzer, and Craig Bitzer. She was also the grandmother of Lindsey Bitzer and Jen Bitzer. While they are saddened by her passing, they know she is glad to be at home with the Lord.

Mabel was an avid baker since childhood, winning awards as early as age 16 in 4-H and the state fair and was later awarded “Cook of the Month” by Better Homes and Gardens. She was well known for her chocolate chip rolls and chocolate chip cookies which she would often bake by the dozens at Christmas. Mabel’s Swedish tea ring received 3 blue ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair and the recipe was published in the Lexington Herald Leader. Mabel was a resident of Lexington, KY for 40 years and an avid UK Wildcats fan. She loved the Lord and was a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. Mabel never met a stranger and was beloved by many for her sense of humor and sharp wit. Above all else, Mabel was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

The family would like to thank Dominion Senior Living for the care and joy they provided Mabel.

Please join us in celebrating her life at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church on Friday, May 17, 2024 for a gathering of family and friends from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. The family asks that those who would like to make a donation in her memory donate to Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
