Rachel Elizabeth Starnes Ritchie Obituary

Rachel Elizabeth Starnes Ritchie, 92, of Granite Falls, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at her residence.


Born November 11, 1931, in Caldwell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Oliver Pinkney “O.P.” Starnes and Beulah Poovey Starnes.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Charlie Marcus Ritchie, brothers; Ralph, Clyde, Fred, and Sam Starnes, sisters; Nina Mae Hill, and Mary Bolick.


Mrs. Ritchie was retired from Regency House Furniture and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory. She loved animals, planting and taking care of her flowers, her jewelry, and her clothes. She especially liked letting people know that she was the baby of the family.


Those left to cherish her memory are her stepson, Chuck Ritchie of Sawmills; brother-in-law, George Ritchie and wife Cassie, numerous nieces and nephews, and her fur babies Cutie and Kitty.


The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM at Poovey’s Grove Baptist Church in Granite Falls on Monday, May 20, 2024, with the Rev. Nathan Key and the Rev. Scott Hooks officiating.


The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Lee Starnes, Chuck Ritchie, Doug Deland, David Starnes, Paul MacDougal, and Mike Keller.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, C/O the Building Fund, 1225 29th Ave. Dr. N.E., Hickory, N.C. 28601.
