Laverne H. McGowan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laverne Hohlbein McGowan on May 15,

2024. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished

memories.


Laverne was born on January 6, 1937, to the late Edward and Gertrude Hohlbein in Baltimore,

Maryland. She grew up in English Consul and graduated from Catonsville High School. On

June 7, 1958, she married James D. McGowan and together they raised four children in

Catonsville, Maryland. Laverne had a passion for traveling, reading, and spending time with her

extended family.


Laverne is survived by her children, Jennifer Moran and her husband Sean, James D.

McGowan II and his wife Mary, Brendan McGowan, Shannon Angarita and her husband Alvaro,

grandchildren Wyatt, Tristan, and Lane Moran, Alia Harry, A.J., Anthony and Isabelle Angarita

and great grandson Aaron Hicks. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years.


Laverne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her warm-hearted nature

and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family,

friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.


A service will be held on May 23, 2024 at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Ave.

Baltimore, MD 21229. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Baltimore Humane Society, Alzheimer’s

Association or Wounded Warrior Project.
