Catherine "Katie" Vetter Leahey Obituary

Catherine "Katie" Vetter Leahey, 73, of Richmond, passed away the morning of May 15, 2024. A teacher for over 30 years, she was awarded national scholarships to study abroad during her time teaching at the Humanities Center at Hermitage High School, a place to which she was deeply devoted. In addition to being a teacher, she was a lifelong artist who spent years working in vocal music, fine jewelry, fabric arts, and other disciplines. A talented singer, she performed as a soloist in various choral groups and churches throughout most of her adult life. An excellent cook, she kept two hungry teenage boys well-fed, surprising them with delicacies like pecan-encrusted salmon during holidays. She was also a creative gardener who turned a typical suburban backyard into a lush refuge. She leaves behind her husband, Bob; her children, Andrew and Jason; daughters-in-law, Emily and Shannon; grandchildren, Nora and Winter; siblings, Larry, Marty, and Bill; as well as nieces, nephews, and hundreds of students. In lieu of flowers, people may donate to the Alzheimer’s choir Joyful Voices, in which Katie participated during her final years of life, or a charity of their choice.

A wake will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., at Bliley’s on Augusta Avenue, Friday, May 17, 2024, with a service being held at the same location at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
