Dennis M. Raffa Obituary

Dennis M. Raffa, Sr, 81 of Yonkers, New York passed away on May 15, 2024 following a long illness. He was born on September 14, 1942 to John Raffa and Anne (Talone). He is survived by, his brother, Bob and his wife Sandy. His brother Jack predeceased him. He is also survived by brother-in-law Tom Miller, Sr and the late Jeanne Progner Miller.


Dennis met the love of his life, Judith Progner and they were married on September 24, 1967. Judy sadly passed away on June 6, 1998 after bravely fighting cancer surrounded by her adoring family. Dennis and Judy are survived by their daughter, Cindy Christiano and her husband, Tim and son, Dennis Raffa, Jr. and his wife, Belissa. Dennis is survived by the lights of his life, his three loving grandchildren Brandon, Justin and Ariana Christiano.


Dennis met Sue Murry and they dated for many years until her passing in January 2011.

He was appointed to the Yonkers Police Department on March 4, 1966. In 1969 PO Raffa was appointed Detective. He worked with the FBI for two years investigating the Tylenol poisoning murders. He also was a polygraphist. Upon his retirement, in 1993, Dennis worked as security director of Pergament in Yonkers.

Dennis was an avid sportsman and played football for Saunders High School Tarkio College in Missouri. He returned to Yonkers and played football for the Blackhawks, a semi pro football team. During that time, he was employed as a printer in Dobbs Ferry. He was also a boxer, studied Martial Arts for over 40 years, avid fisherman and hunter and played basketball, baseball and golf.


Dennis was known for his stature, enormous love for his family, his passion for sports, his keen detective work, being a great cop, his sense of humor, kindness, generosity and making everyone feel safe and protected and his selfless acts of devotion to his family and friends.


A wake will be held at the Flynn Memorial Home on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 4 pm to 8 pm and a funeral service in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 21st at 10 am followed by burial at Mt Hope Cemetery.
