Ronald J Modica Obituary

Ronald J Modica, 84 of Walden, VT peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2024 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family.

Ronald was born on August 24, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to Dominic and Rose Modica. He attended Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, CT through 11th grade. He was then recruited by Southington High School in Southington CT to play baseball, where he graduated in 1957.

Ronald was a successful business owner for over sixty years. He and his brother Larry owned and operated an auto repair shop as well as multiple gas stations in Cheshire, CT. He was loved and cherished by his many patrons and his community. He was often known as “Ronnie Mo”.

Ronald coached high school baseball for 22 years at Cheshire, CT High School. After moving to Vermont in 2006 he continued coaching for 3 more years at Hazen Union High School in Hardwick, VT. He was a natural athlete, participating in baseball, softball, boxing, golf, hunting and bowling.

Ronald is survived by his wife Jane Modica of Walden VT, his children David Modica and Lisa Modica of Cheshire, CT, Dori Walker (Tom) of Thetford, VT, Amanda Lenz Lee (Alan) of Cumming, GA and Clayton Lenz of Las Cruces, NM. He is survived by his grandchildren Anthony Nollen, Jr. (Angelina), Nicole Walker, Aidan Holroyd, Aislynn Holroyd, Tėa Antigiovanni, Chase Lee and his great grandchildren Derek Nollen and Jolene Nollen.

Ronald also leaves behind his siblings Patricia Casey, Larry Modica ( Barbara), Richard Modica (Cheryl), Robert Modica (Patricia) and Paula Nosal, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Priscilla Twing and his god daughter and niece Rebecca Lynn Modica.

A memorial service will be held at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home in Hardwick, VT on Sunday, May 19, 2024. There will be an hour of visitation beginning at 2pm prior to his memorial service at 3pm. Immediately following there will be a celebration of life at American Legion Post 7 in Hardwick, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ronald’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which honors America’s First Responders, Veterans, and their Families.

A graveside service and at his burial will take place on Monday May 20, 2024 at 1:00pm at West Cemetery, 180 North Washington St., Plainville, CT 06062.
