Joanne Marie (Tucker) Chase Major Obituary

GLENS FALLS-Joanne Marie Tucker Chase Major (77) passed away on May 11, 2024.

Born December 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Sherwin R. Tucker and Golda Tracy Tucker.

Joanne grew up in Lake George, NY and lived on Canada Street in what is now the Frankenstein House. Joanne always said that living on the main street in Lake George in the 50’s and 60’s was a wonderful experience. She graduated from Lake George Central School in 1965 and attended Adirondack Community College earning straight A’s in all her courses.

Joanne married Harold W. Major on February 14, 1980. They met when both working for John Kubricky & Sons and Duke Concrete Products. It was love at first sight. They loved to travel together taking several cruises, weekend drives, Disney World and Las Vegas and with their friends John and Barb Webster.

Joanne’s passion was music (Music is the Voice of Angels). She played the French Horn in the high school band and earned awards as a soloist at the NYS School Music Association yearly events. She was a member of the high school chorus and was a majorette. Away from school, Joanne sang in the Caldwell Presbyterian Church junior and senior choir. As an adult, she sang with The Mastersingers (now Adirondack Voices) and traveled with a Christian touring choir, Festival of Praise. Her daughter Heather joined her on one of the tours and sang with the choir as well. Joanne also sang with the Adirondack Community College Choir, Sweet Adeline’s and was an early member of the Lake George Community Band.

She was an active member of the Church of Messiah and served God as a lay reader, lay Eucharist minister, choir member and served on the Vestry. Joanne found a passion for ministry when she attended a Cursillo weekend (short course on Christianity). She teamed on many weekends and brought her passion for music and love of God to others by playing guitar and singing. She felt music was an important part of bringing people closer to Christ.

Joanne retired from Duke Concrete Products after 35 years of service. She adored her work and the people she worked with; they were like a second family to her. She was also a member of Elks Lodge #81, Queensbury, NY, Fraternal Order of Eagles, South Glens Falls, NY and the American Legion Auxiliary, Lake George, NY.

In addition to her parents, Joanne is predeceased by her husband Harold Major and her sister Barbara Tucker. Survivors include her daughter Heather Chase of East Greenbush, NY, her sister-in-law Jean Chase Spencer and her children Amy Chase Quigley, Andrea Chase Glasgow along with their spouses and children, as well as her stepchildren Randy Major of Ballston Spa, NY, Roseanne Peters of Gansevoort, NY, Joanne Mundy of Miami, FL and Tim Major of Saratoga Springs, NY.

Family and friends may call from 10am to 11am on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen St., Glens Falls, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11am at the church. (Parking is available behind the Parish House with access from Elm Street.)

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lake George Community Band, www.lgcb.org, PO Box 453, Lake George, NY 12845.

Arrangements under the care of Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, Queensbury.
