Gloria Ann Janson Obituary

Gloria A. Janson, age 91, passed away on May 12, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia at home surrounded by family.

Born Gloria Ann Ireland on November 27, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Gloria was the daughter of Vincent Ireland and Dorothy Morton, and the proud sister of Vincent Albert Ireland, Jr. veteran of Korean Conflict, United States Air Force.

Gloria grew up and spent most of her life in Cincinnati and attended Western Hills High School. She got married and had her first child before she was able to complete high school. One of her proudest moments was earning her GED and then attending school for nursing and real estate. Gloria was a voracious reader, enjoying any book, newspaper, or magazine she picked up. She was a master at gardening and had a knack for growing anything, especially roses. She won prestigious awards at flower shows in Cincinnati and Montgomery, Ohio and she passed on her love of horticulture to many of her children and grandchildren. Awards she won while working with her daughter and granddaughter include the Queen's Royal Award, the Governor's Award, and Best in Show at the Cincinnati Flower Show.

Gloria married young, to Clyde Jack Janson, and together they had five children: David Clyde Janson (Janet), Pamlyn Janson (Mark Oenbrink), James Robin Janson, Michael Anthony Janson (Barbara), and M Elizabeth Johnson (Ken). In addition to her children, she is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Those include grandchildren Angela and Kim (Pam), Jeremy and Dustin (Jamie), Cara, Elyse, and John (Mike), and Benjamin, Robert, Samuel, and Savannah (Elizabeth). Great grandchildren include Brooke, Paige, Douglas, Jack, Cooper, Zigi, Isla, Eleanor, and Oliver. Great great grandchildren are Sophia and Silas.

Gloria was famously a chocolate lover and well known for her favorite sayings, such as "I love you a bushel and a peck", after which you were required to answer back "and a hug around the neck". In memory of Gloria, enjoy a fine piece of chocolate and give your loved ones "a hug around the neck."
