Elizabeth Wood Obituary

Elizabeth Wood

Jericho

Elizabeth Wood, a long-time resident of Jericho, was in her cherished home and being lovingly cared for by family when she entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2018.

She was born May 27, 1925 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to H. Gordon Bailey and Hettie Dixon Bailey.  She was predeceased by both parents, brother Robert Bailey and sister Catherine Bailey and is survived by brother Edwin Bailey of Delaware and sister Sallie Ferguson of New Jersey.  She was also predeceased by her devoted husband of almost 62 years, Dr. Glen M. Wood.  Elizabeth is survived by her seven children, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  Her children are Gretchen (Richard) McDaniel of Trumansburg, NY; Priscilla (Raymond) Rossi of Orange, VT; Howard (Margaret) Wood of Souderton, PA; David (Glenda) Wood of Birmingham, AL; Eric Wood of Jericho, VT; Kristin Wood of Brooksville, FL; Mark (Karen) Wood of Penfield, NY.  Grandchildren are Melissa Weiland, Erin Longbrake, Christopher Wood, Jason McDaniel, Jonathan Wood, Nicholas Rossi, Heather Christensen, Christina Agnew, Ryan McDaniel, Rebecca Tang, Katherine Keo, and Peter Wood.

Elizabeth spent her childhood in New Brunswick and joined the U.S. Navy on the first day she was eligible to enlist.  Following the end of the war, she completed a degree in Home Economics at N.J. College for Women (now Douglass College, part of Rutgers).  Although raising seven children was a full-time job that gave her much joy, her later work as a tax preparer for H&R Block revealed an aptitude for numbers, and Elizabeth went on to serve as the bookkeeper at The Daffodil in Essex Junction for many years.  She found great pleasure in the fields and woods surrounding their homestead in Jericho and was an avid birder.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit family and wildlife refuges.  She was also a quilter who made countless treasured quilts for family members, friends, and various charities.

Elizabeth and her husband were founding members of the North Avenue Alliance Church and she attended Jericho Congregational Church in her later years.

The family especially thanks the staff of Armistead, the Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice and Joan Myers for their care.

Donations may be made to Baptist Haiti Mission, P.O. Box 171500, Austin, TX 78717 or VNA/Hospice, 1110 Prim Road Colchester, VT 05446.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at Jericho Congregational Church at 1:00 PM.
