Anna Jane McCormick Obituary

Rock Hill, South Carolina—Anna Jane McCormick, 95, passed away peacefully on December 22 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was a sweet, caring and an easy-going person who had a kind word for all.

Anna was born in 1928 in Burlington, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Anne Foster and John Rice. Anna graduated from Burlington High School in 1945 and from Ryder Business College in 1947.

Anna married George McCormick in 1947. She was the mother of Eliza, Robert, Christine, Sean and James.

Anna also known by many as Jane, worked as a medical secretary for several different organizations throughout her career. Her notable and most rewarding employment was office manager and administrative assistant to Dr. James Hunter at The Hand Center of Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.

Anna retired at 64 to Deer Isle, Maine with her husband George. She enjoyed playing bridge, finishing the NYT Crossword puzzles, reading, traveling through Europe, cooking, gardening and visits from her children and grandchildren. She also found time to volunteer as treasurer of the Island Ambulance Corps.

Anna and George lived the life of nomads, moving frequently during George’s career in ministry. They started their journey in their hometown of Burlington, New Jersey, and then moved to churches in Bellmawr, New Jersey (Church of the Holy Spirit), Morton, Pennsylvania (Church of the Atonement) and Deer Isle, Maine (St. Mary’s Star of the Sea.)

Anna resided in Maine until the age of 88. She then moved to live with her daughter Christine in Pennsylvania. The following year she moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina to live with her daughter Sean.

For the last year and a half of her life Anna lived at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Rock Hill.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, George, her six siblings- James, John, Martin, Ellen, Rosetta and William, her infant- Eliza, son- Robert, her grandson- Christian and great grandson- Jason. She is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living facility for their amazing care and the residents of Brookdale for their friendship with Anna. The family would also like to thank the staff of Agape Hospice, especially Demetrius, Anna’s nurse and Barbara, an angel on earth, Anna’s much-loved aide.

There will be a Mass at 11AM May 18, 2024 at Catholic Church, followed by interment at St. Mary Star of the Sea Cemetery, Stonington.
