Dorothy Bailey Obituary

Dorothy B. (Lange) Bailey, 96, of Letts passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Washington County Hospital.  Memorial Services will be 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Letts United Methodist Church.  Private family burial will be in Letts Cemetery.  Following the memorial service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.   Memorials have been established to be used throughout the Letts Community in memory of Dorothy.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine is caring for Dorothy’s arrangements and her family.  Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Dorothy Lange was born on June 3, 1927 in rural Montpelier, Iowa the daughter of Daniel and Elsie (Krueger) Lange.  Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Muscatine High School.  In September 1948, she was united in marriage to H. Arthur Bailey.  During World War II Dorothy worked for the Rock Island Arsenal and was honored as a Rosie.  Along with her husband, Dorothy farmed in the rural Letts area before moving to town in 1967.  For 34 years Dorothy drove the school bus for Louisa – Muscatine school district.  She was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years.  She was a long-time member of Chapter T of TTT, HON Retirees and worked for years on Louisa election board.  She enjoyed going to dances, playing cards, gardening, baking cinnamon rolls, reading and traveling. 

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children; Larry (Kris) Bailey of Alabama; Susan (Gene) Langstaff of Wapello and Karen Schaapveld of North Liberty; grandchildren; Beth (John) Faulkner, Bonny (Bryan) Finck, Luke (Mallory) Langstaff, Mitch (Julie) Langstaff, Gabe (Elizabeth) Schaapveld and Stephanie (Jake) Willenborg; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Houseman of Muscatine and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur in September of 1987; sister, Betty Houseman; brother, Carl Lange; grandson, Sam Langstaff and wife, Jackie and son-in-law, Dan Schaapveld.
