MANNING - Henry Beatson "H.B." Mahoney, Jr., 90, widower of Jenny "Jean" Lee Baker Mahoney, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at his home.


Born July 28, 1933, in Manning, he was a son of the late Henry Beatson Mahoney, Sr. and the late Margaret Geneva Reardon Mahoney. He was a US Navy veteran. In 1972, H.B. and his wife, Jean, opened and operated the Family Bootery for the next 21 years. He was a past member of the Civitan Club in Sumter. H.B. retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a faithful member of Manning First Baptist Church and the P.T. Bradham Sunday School class and served his church in various capacities including Deacon and Trustee.


He is survived by four children, Michael "Mike" P. Mahoney (Angie) of North Litchfield, Mildred Patrice "Pat" DuBose of Manning, Thomas "Tom" O. Mahoney of Surfside, and William "Billy" H. Mahoney (Angela) of Manning; seven grandchildren, Craig DuBose of Charleston, Steven DuBose (Hallie) of Gable, Erin Mahoney Johnson (James) of Pawleys Island, Will Mahoney of Salters, Jennifer Mahoney Jackson (Scott) of Manning, Eileen Mahoney of Atlanta, GA, and Mattie Mahoney of Manning; eight great grandchildren, Henry Johnson, Eliza Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Mary Rutledge Johnson, Scott Jackson IV, Lee Jackson, Capers DuBose, and Salters DuBose; a brother, Robert L. Mahoney, Sr. of Florence; a sister, Geneva Curtis of Irmo; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Carlisle R. DuBose; a brother-in-law, Ray Curtis; and a sister-in-law, Frances Mahoney.


A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Manning First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Clarendon Memorial Gardens.


Pallbearers will be Craig DuBose, Steven DuBose, Will Mahoney, Scott Jackson III, Scott Jackson IV, and Lloyd Roberson.


Honorary pallbearers will be members of the P.T. Bradham Sunday School class.


Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Manning First Baptist Church and other times at the home of his daughter, Pat DuBose, 1125 Seminole Drive, Manning.
