Edward McClaren Obituary

Edward L. McClaren, 61, of Soldiers Grove died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Vernon Memorial Healthcare. He was born on October 6, 1962, in Hillsboro, the son of Gary and Doris Jean (Long) McClaren. In 1983 he met his life partner Joy Deal and they have been by each other’s side since. He received his bakery certificate from MATC. Ed liked farming, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, feeding the birds. He was a very giving person who had a big heart, always willing to help others. Ed was a man of faith and he gave his life to the Lord.


Ed is survived his is life partner Joy Deal of Soldiers Grove;

Two children: Robert Lee (Carrie) McClaren of Oelwein, IA,

Barbara Jeanne McClaren of Soldiers Grove;

Seven grandchildren: Michael, Kayden, Landon, David Jr., Noah, Cheyenne, Willow;

Brother: Perry McClaren of Oelwein, IA;

Sister: Deborah Hedburg of Soldiers Grove;

Many other relatives and friends.


Ed was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Kimberly and Ariana, brother Terry, and sister Jody.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel in Richland Center with burial to follow in the Woodstock Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. The family requests memorials be directed to the family for funeral expenses. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
