Donald R. Sommer Obituary

Donald Richard Sommer, 87, of Owatonna, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Traditions II.


He was born December 12, 1936 in Owatonna, to Leonard and Alice (McKimm) Sommer. He grew up in rural Owatonna and attended county school near Pontoppidan. After he completed school, Donald worked on the family farm. Which he later bought and farmed until he retired from farm work and moved into town. He later mowed lawns until his final retirement.


Donald loved to be in his woodworking shop making things for friends and family members. During his free time he liked to watch The Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. you could see him sitting on his front of his house waving to people as they drove and walked by his house.


He is survived by his sisters, Joyce Ennis of TX, Cathy Hill of AZ; brother, Butch Sommer of Ellendale, and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alice Sommer; sister, Grace Kubat; brother, Roger Sommer; and two nephews


A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Michaelson Funeral Home at 11AM. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
