Elsie Jane Fisher Obituary

Elsie Jane Fisher, affectionately known as "Granny Fish," passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2024, at her home in Winnebago, Illinois, at the age of 90. Born on August 4th, 1933, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, she was the beloved wife of Thomas Joseph Fisher, with whom she shared many cherished memories until his passing. Elsie was the definition of a loving matriarch, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and unconditional love that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Elsie dedicated many years of her life to caring for her family as a devoted homemaker.  She was the oldest of seven siblings and took great pride in nurturing and supporting her brothers and sisters throughout her life. On May 9th, 1953, she married the love of her life, Thomas Fisher in Rockford, Illinois and together they raised their three children on their farm in Pecatonica, Illinois, creating a home filled with love and cherished traditions.

Elsie had a passion for life and a love for dancing, which she indulged in often, as many as three times a week, until shortly before her passing. She was renowned for her exceptional cooking, especially her Christmas cookies and famous Christmas spaghetti dinner, which brought joy to her family every year for decades. A talented quilt maker, Elsie lovingly crafted quilts for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also known for her handmade decorative kitchen towels which she lovingly gifted at Christmas, weaving her love and warmth into every stitch.

Her home was always a welcoming haven, adorned with her handmade curtains and decorative towels. Elsie had a green thumb and took pride in her beautifully manicured flower beds and bountiful garden, where she canned her own vegetables, jams, and sauces. She and her husband retired to their A-Frame in Viola Wisconsin, where they opened their hearts and home to all who crossed their threshold, including the local deer who frequented their backyard.

Elsie will be remembered as a strong and kind-hearted woman who touched the lives of all she encountered. She cherished her family above all else and took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, bridging the generational gaps and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom, Parents, her sister Beverly Tighe, her brothers Lyle Severson and Gordy Severson, and her great-grandson Cash Aron Guzman. She is survived by her sister Yvonne (Bob) Blaylock, brothers Wayne (Wanda) Severson and Kenny (Marge) Severson, her children Keith (Sandy) Fisher, Lynette (Mike) Asche, and Leon (Donna) Fisher, her grandchildren Amanda (Billy) Smith, Tarina Frisella, Kurt (Kelsey) Fisher, Angie (Daniel) Willoughby, Melissa Yoder, Katie Asche, Abe (Ann) Fisher, and Jason (Shannon) Fisher, her great-grandchildren Trent (Laura), Elijah, Chase, Giovanni, Leela, Iris, Roman, June, David, Norah, Jacob, Paige, Alayna, Ryan, Ronald Ray Jr., Bella, Ashlee, and Michael, her great-great-grandsons Ari Cash Oliver, Kai, and Freddie, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also leaves behind her special companion, Warren Jones, and his wonderful family, who brought her joy and companionship in her later years.

Elsie's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who mourn her passing.

We invite friends and family to join us in a celebration of Elsie's life on May 25th from 1 to 4 pm at the Eagles Club, located at 3829 11th Street, Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, Elsie requested that donations be made to St. Jude's in her honor.
