Gary D. Burr Obituary

Gary Dennis Burr, 83, of Vernon, beloved husband of 58 years to Jane (Gocht) Burr, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 13, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1941, in Middletown, son to the late Dennis H. and Olga (Krpata) Burr.

Gary grew up in Middletown and was a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1959. He continued his education by earning a bachelor's degree in 1963 from the UConn School of Engineering. Gary was employed for CANEL in Middletown, Systems Center in Farmington, and Global Lasers and Fuel Cells in South Windsor, all divisions of United Technologies. In between those years, he also enjoyed his time at Dynamic Controls in South Windsor. His expertise was used assisting the Apollo 13 astronauts, helping them return home safely with his backup guidance system. This earned him the prestigious NASA “Manned Flight Awareness” award. Gary was also an all-around handy man and could fix almost anything. His family always came first. He enjoyed spending a week each summer at Lake Winnipesaukee with family and friends, snorkeling and playing setback. Another week was spent in Eastham, MA, in a little cottage on Cape Cod Bay. In his retirement, he also enjoyed going to Ogunquit, ME, every year. The highlight of the vacations was a trip to Italy to celebrate their “50th “. Although our time with Gary has come to an end, his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends for years to come.
