Gloria was born in Lima, Peru on November 26th, 1932. She was a joyful, vibrant, strong, and courageous women. She came to the United States in the late 1960s arriving in Pittsburgh, PA to build her family and in search of a new life. She worked in accounting and bookkeeping for most of her life. Family was most important to Gloria, as she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her love for people and what they have to offer to the world was just one of her many great qualities. In 1998 she moved to Texas to help with her beloved grandchildren, making frequent trips to Pittsburgh to visit with family and friends. Gloria was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, hockey, but especially her Pittsburgh Steelers. Her love for all things in life was infectious and passed down to her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her cooking and love to teach others her trade. Gloria also had a love for music and her dancing will be a memory cherished for life. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to read and do word searches with her grandchildren. Most of all Gloria was a devout Catholic and had a strong faith. Her love for God never wavered.


Gloria is survived by her children, Robert Velarde and spouse, Amanda of Vandergrift, PA and Cecilia Novaes of Flower Mound, TX; Grandchildren - Elaina Alspach of Flower Mound, TX, Natalie Novaes of Flower Mound, TX, Alexandria Velarde of Vandergrift, PA and Dario Velarde of Vandergrift, PA; Sisters – Rosa “Rami” Medina of Lima, Peru, Yolanda Teresa Tincopa of Katy, TX, Genoveva Delgado of Lima, Peru, Totti, Judy, and Herminia of Lima, Peru.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Geraldo Medina and Maria Antoinette Ludena
