Sayreville

Gloria Szymanski of Sayreville, peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024, with her loving family at her side. She was 97.


Born and raised in Brookyln, NY to the late Charles and Lillian Johnson, Gloria first moved to Edison and then Old Bridge in 1970, where she raised her family. She recently moved in with her son in Sayreville 5 years ago. Gloria started her career as a member of the Skating Vanities, a traveling group of roller skaters who would perform for active service men and others. Later, after raising her 3 children she returned to the work force to work for Marriott Hotel. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing mahjong. She was a devout parishioner of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in East Brunswick, as well as an active member of their choir. Gloria was a loving mother, grandmother, and dear friend who will be missed by all that knew her throughout her life.


Gloria is survived by her loving children Steven Szymanski of Sayreville, Robin Baselice and her husband Fran of SC, and Valerie Amsterdam of CA; her dear grandchildren Samantha Szymanski of Sayreville and Rachel Szymanski of Bradley Beach, and Lauren and Matthew Amsterdam, both of NY.


A memorial mass will take place at 1pm on Saturday, May 18 at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 114 Old Stage Road, East Brunswick. Please join Gloria’s family in celebrating her life.
