Harry “Paul” Smith Jr. was born to Harry Paul and Katherine (Potts) Smith on June 30, 1940 in Cushing, OK. He went to his Heavenly home on May 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 83 years.

Paul moved to Noble in 1979 from Shidler, OK. He attendedYale High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. He continued his education at Central State University receiving his Masters Degree in Education. On November 25, 1961 he married the love of his life Phyllis Olive in Chandler, OK. They were married for 62 wonderful years. Paul began his teaching and coaching career at Kremlin High School where he was the Basketball Coach from 1963-1964, he then began at Shidler High School from 1963-1968, Shawnee High School from 1968-1977, Shidler High School from 1977-1979, Noble High School from 1979-1986 and Norman High School from 1987 until his retirement in 2006. Paul received State Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year along with North Country All State Coach in 1979, Conference Coach of the year in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981, he coached the All State Basketball Team in 1979, he was Chairman of the All State Selection Committee in 1981, Member of the All State Selection Committee in 1983 and Member of the Regional Selection Committee in 1986. Paul enjoyed playing a round of golf, fishing, boating, going to the lake with his family and his daily walks. Paul was a faithful member of the Noble First Baptist Church serving as a Deacon.


Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dan Smith. He is survived by his wife Phyllis of the home, son Mark David Smith and wife Tammie of Dewey, OK, daughter Janna Sue Smith of Norman, grandchildren: Ashlee Chapman and husband Jeffrey and Andrew Smith, great-grandchildren: Londyn Bond and Madelyn Chapman along with many other relatives and friends.
