Roger Alan Asbury

<p>Roger Alan Asbury, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Roger was born in Sturgis, MI, on May 11, 1943. He was a devoted husband to Margaret (Foster) Asbury for 60 years, a cherished father to Scott (Lisa) Asbury, Steve (Shannan) Asbury, and Kim (Neil) Potter. Roger was a proud grandfather to Alexis (Arthur), Robert (Stephanie), Daniel, Sammy, Addison, Tommy, and Katie, and an adoring great-grandfather to Raiden and Ellis. Also surviving are his sister, Maryann Kraft; brother, Bruce (Pat) Asbury; and dog, Cooper. </p><p>Roger's life was marked by his love for his family. He had a deep appreciation for the companionship of his beloved six golden retrievers, who brought him joy and comfort throughout his life. In his youth, Roger experienced excitement on the drag racing track, behind the wheel of “Mr. Pontiac” his 1957 race car. He also competed at the 1968 Nationals Drag Racing event. Additionally, he loved coaching in the FOP Little League and found pleasure in the game of golf. Even more so when acing hole No. 11 for 226 yards at Raber Public Golf Course for a hole in one. Family vacations to Gulf Shores, AL, were a cherished tradition, and Roger delighted in adorning the family home with festive decorations for every holiday throughout the year. He looked forward to his weekly breakfast get together with his best friend, Dave Bickel. He also was an avid Alabama Football fan – Roll Tide! </p><p>Roger’s unwavering encouragement and attendance for his children's athletic competitions, academic pursuits, and ceremonial achievements extended effortlessly to his grandchildren as well. </p><p>His kindness, humor, and unwavering support will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Roger's legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. </p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cancer Resources for Elkhart County, as a tribute to Roger's memory. </p><p>A celebration of Roger's life will be held in June/July 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Granger. </p><p>Per his wishes, cremation will be conducted by Elkhart Cremation Services, who is overseeing the arrangements. </p><p>&nbsp; </p>
