Raymond Russell Dilly, Jr. Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday May 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Raymond Russell Dilly, 67, who died Monday, May 13, 2024, at 2:47 a.m. at Hospice of Acadiana Calcutta House in Lafayette.


Fr. Mikel Polson, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services the family requests visiting hours Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Friday at 6 p.m. A private inurnment service will take place later.


Russell was a graduate of Crowley High School and then obtained his AgScience degree from USL (ULL) and worked for the LSU Rice Research Station for 44 years until his retirement. He was an avid outdoors man and sports fan, passing on a wealth of knowledge to many. Russell coached many teams in Crowley over the years from T-Ball to American Legion baseball and soccer. He was of the catholic faith and was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by many.


Russell is survived by his wife, Geraldine Melancon Dilly of Maurice; one son, Nick Dilly and his wife, Emily of Indian Bayou; two grandchildren, Harper Rae and Emmie Sue Dilly; his sister, Julia D. Vincent and her husband Bruce of Houston; his in-laws, Cathy Wadsworth, Ginger McCavitt and her husband Bob, Gerald Melancon and his wife Ann; two nieces, Erin Vogt and her husband Stuart, Lindsey Vines and her husband Robert; three nephews, Robbie Wadsworth and his wife Jessica, Jonathan McCavitt and his wife Samantha, and Brent Melancon; his extended family, Sarah Ancelet, Reid Latiolais, and T-Paul Trahan.


He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond “Ray” Russell Dilly, Sr. and Edna Calihan Dilly.


Pallbearers will be Reid Latiolais, Robbie Wadsworth, TPaul Trahan, Marty Frey, Michael Turley, and Carl Dischler.
