Susan May Rigo, 77 of Allentown passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. Susan was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was a proud alumna of Allentown Central Catholic High School and Moravian College. In 1982, she moved to Manchester, Connecticut where she raised her family with her former husband, Raymond Buckno. Susan was active in the community as the President of the PTA for her children’s elementary school, member of the Rotary Club, taught CCD classes for St. James church, and was a successful residential and commercial realtor. In, 1998, she ran a strong campaign for a Connecticut State Representative seat in her first political bid. She was not deterred by the loss and ran a successful bid for Manchester Board of Directors and served as the Deputy Mayor from 1989-1990. In 1990, Susan returned to Allentown, PA where she worked for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, where her love of fundraising began. She went on to have a successful career in fundraising for hospital networks in PA, VA, IL, IA and NY states. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Strategic Communications & Leadership with High Distinction from Seton Hall University in 2009. She earned the designation of Fellow - Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. Susan was passionate about her children, swimming, reading and music.

 

Susan will be lovingly remembered by her son, Joshua Raymond Buckno; her daughter, Lauren Nicole Purcell; and her brother, John E. Rigo. 

 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 PM until the time of service. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
