Richard A. “Pete” Kidwell, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side.


Born on February 17, 1938, in Yonkers, he was the son of the late Richard F.R. and Sylvia (Arnold) Kidwell.


In 1960, Pete earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Norwich University and later graduated from Command and General Staff College in 1975.


He proudly served in the United States Army for 28 years as a Lieutenant Colonel. Pete was in 2 tours in Vietnam and earned several awards and decorations including the Bronze Star with Leaf Oak Combat Infantry Badge and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver and Bronze Star.


Pete was a life member of the Fort Edward Fire Department as well as a Fire Commissioner for the Department.


In 1995, Pete married the love of his life, Virginia Sharp, at the Fort Miller Reformed Church. Pete served the church as a deacon for many years.


He enjoyed gardening, singing, and spending time with family and friends.


Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 29 years, Virginia; his children, Robert (Ellen) Kidwell, Richard T. (Leigh) Kidwell, Stephen Kidwell; his grandchildren, Robert, Sean, Katie, Suzie, Richard H., Sarah, Khristopher, Mason, and Keegan.


The family would like to thank the nurse’s, Paige, Dawn, Kelle, Jessica, Noah, Jodie, Cindy, Carrie, Carie, Jennifer and Lawrence for their commpassionate care.


Calling hours will be from 4pm-6pm on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the M.B. Kilmer, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward NY 12828. A service will be held after calling hours.


Interment will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
