Son of James Ira and Betty Lou (Fox) Kelts, Jerry was born on April 6, 1948, in Petoskey, Michigan. He graduated from Boyne City High School in 1966. After graduation, Jerry owned and operated his own business, “Jerry’s Pizza”. Shortly after he moved to San Fransico, California, and lived there for several years. Jerry then worked at The Depot Restaurant at the old railroad depot.

Jerry returned to Boyne City in 1994 and he was the lead travel agent at Kelts Travel Agency on East Main Street. He then drove the Charlevoix County Transit, “The Pickle Bus”, for many years before his retirement. Following his retirement, Jerry had a successful estate sale business.

Jerry was very involved in his community and enjoyed helping others. He was instrumental in launching the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner and served as lead organizer for many years.
