Winbert Eldon Lavender, 89, of Jacksonville, FL passed away May 8, 2024. He was born May 5, 1935 in Miami, FL to the late Robert and Winona (Wolfe) Lavender. Winbert was a graduate of Miami Jackson High School and attended South Georgia College in Douglas, GA, where he played football under Coach Bobby Bowden. After two years, he transferred to Troy State College in Troy, AL earning his bachelor degree and later, earning his master degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Winbert started his career as third generation with the railroad, then a mathematician in Cape Canaveral, FL and later with Wyeth Laboratories in OH. After settling in Orange Park, FL, he owned Hickory Farms Franchise and then Lavender & Co. Jewelry Store. Winbert also became a Real Estate Broker and an Auctioneer. Needless to say, he never stopped working. Winbert was of the Baptist faith and a member of Neptune Baptist Church and served our country honorably in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was a dedicated member of St. Augustine Rod & Gun Club, Morocco Shriners and Florida Auctioneers Association. Winbert was very blessed with so many longtime friends and business associates. He was always supportive of his family, especially his daughters, of whom he was extremely proud. Winbert cherished time spent with his family and enjoyed dinners together with great friends. He loved to travel especially, Greece, China, Macho Pichu, Italy, Alaska, Iceland, Switzerland and his favorite, Israel. Winbert certainly loved life and always said how blessed he was and “he had a great life!” He will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Winbert always had funny jokes to share, loved reminiscing about his football days and loved Florida Football! He is preceded by his parents and sisters, Gloria Fleming and Lucy Johnson. Winbert is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Lavender, Carole Lavender Bright and Sandra Lavender Hilliard; sisters, Ina Clare Ingle and Beverly Sumner; grandsons, Tyler Theune (Jordan), Connor Theune and Cooper Hilliard; granddaughters, Sydney Theune and Olivia Theune with many nieces, nephews, extended family and treasured friends.
