Randy Michael Obenchain Obituary

Our lives were changed suddenly on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024, when Randy left the struggles of this world following an asthma attack and entered the gates of Heaven.

Randy was born on August 24, 1974.  Along with his parents Kevin and Cheryl Obenchain, he spent most of his life in the Kokomo and Russiaville area.   Randy was a 1992 graduate of Western High School and completed his degree as a Paralegal in 2018. He was currently employed in Security at Abbott Industries in Westfield.

Randy was a vocal member of the Democratic party, and for quite some time helped with the airing of “The Workers Voice” podcast - a key part in bringing current issues to the attention of the public. He also volunteered for the Howard County Emergency Management Agency for several years. Randy was very active at the Fellowship of Hope – having recently celebrated 22 years of Sobriety.  He was part of their board of directors and considered it a part of his home, and those that attended his family.

Randy was survived by his parents Kevin (partner Maggie Wyman) Obenchain and Cheryl Obenchain – both of Russiaville, his children Katherine and Lucas Obenchain as well as their mother Ginger (Ben) Hawes of Kokomo. His brothers Josh (Dannielle) of Texas and Wesley with son Jamie Obenchain of Russiaville will mourn his loss. He is also survived by Cheryl’s mother, his grandmother Alice Leach.   Uncles and Aunts include Michael (Marcia) Leach of Nebraska, Monica (Paul) McMain, Doug (Ann) Obenchain, Terri (Mark) West of Kokomo and Saundra (Phillip) Nadeau, Michigan.  There are many nephews, nieces, and cousins that will miss him as well.  He was preceded in death by his birth father, Bobby Childress, Bobby’s parents, Albert and Maudella Childress, Grandparents Bill and Marguerite Obenchain, and most recently Russell Leach Jr, whom he was especially close to.

The family wish to express a special thanks to Joy Fouch and her dear husband Frank, who were great friends and mentors to Randy. Randy thought the world of you both.  God Bless you Joy.  You are such a Blessing to so many!

Friends may visit with the family from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday May 17, 2024, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E Main St., Russiaville. A funeral service will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the funeral home, with Pastor Keith Hannah officiating.  Memorial contributions can be made to The Fellowship of Hope, or to the funeral home to help the family with expenses. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.

Friends and family are invited to join the family at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 1763 E. 100 N. Kokomo Indiana 46901 for a time of food, fellowship and a celebration of Randy’s life.  If you can assist with a covered dish, it would be most welcome.  Please do not feel obligated, however.
