Billy Wayne Hooten Obituary

Billy Wayne Hooten, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at his home in Eufaula at the age of 83. He was born Sunday, September 1, 1940 to Charles and Aulcia (Farmer) Hooten in Checotah. Bill grew up in the Checotah/Texanna area, graduating from Eufaula High School in 1958.

After high school, he served several years in the National Guard. On Sunday, February 7, 1971, in Eufaula, Bill married the love of his life, Sherry Jones. He worked different types of jobs over the years, he had his own mechanic shop in Eufaula for a time, he also checked oil and gas wells, drove a bus for Eufaula Schools and worked shipping/receiving at Walmart. Bill owned Hilltop Swap Shop (flea market) on Hwy 150 for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting antiques. Bill liked raising a big vegetable garden. He enjoyed reading western books and shooting rattlesnakes. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nellie Curtis; brothers, Charles and Donald Ray Hooten.

Bill is lovingly survived by his wife Sherry of the home, his children,

Susan Webb of Yale; Melissa Webb of Longtown; Randy Webb of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Caleb Anderson, Aaron Chambers and his wife Kadie, Zach Anderson, Anna Johnson, Alex Webb, Gavin Webb and his companion Nate Cheatham, Kassidy Beaver and her husband Aaron, Cody Gaspar and his wife Mikki Jo, Samantha Gaspar; great-grandchildren Spencer and Savannah Chambers; brother, Paul Hooten; sister-in-law, Modine Hooten. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.


Viewing will be 1:00pm-6:00pm, Thursday, May 16, 2024, and 9:00am-12:00pm, Friday, May 17, 2024, at Garrett Family Funeral Home, Checotah.

Services will be 1:00pm, Friday, May 17, 2024, in the Serenity Chapel of Garrett Family Funeral Home Checotah. Committal prayers and interment to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Caleb Anderson, Jeff Walker, Aaron Chambers, Alex Webb, Cody Gaspar, Gavin Webb will serve as Casket Bearers.
