Glendal Sullivan Obituary

Glendal Sullivan, of Russell Springs, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown. He was 85 years and 10 days of age.

Born at home, in Russell Springs, on May 4, 1939, he was one of fourteen children born to the union of Lilburn and Jewell Harvey Sullivan. Glendal worked as a drywaller in the construction industry throughout his life and was a faithful member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. Glendal was a very kind and gentle man, who never spoke an ill word about anyone.

Glendal leaves behind to cherish his memory, three children, Jeff (and Nancy) Abernathy, of Columbia, Tim (and Sandy) Abernathy, of Russell Springs, and Jean Wilson, of Russell Springs; three brothers, Kermit (and Wilma) Sullivan, of Indiana, Jerry (and Wanda) Sullivan, of Russell Springs, and Larry (and Betty) Sullivan, of Russell Springs; and two sisters, Bernice Nichols, of Georgia, and Virginia Patterson, of Indiana. Glendal is also survived by nine grandchildren, Taylor Abernathy, Christopher Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Jenny Allen, Bethany Coffey, Garrett Lawless, Amanda Wells, Keith Price, and Jennifer Coffey Appleby; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Glendal is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Gay Brown Abernathy Sullivan, who passed away on February 19, 2006; two daughters, Janet Lawless and Betty Price; five brothers, Clifton Sullivan, Alvis Sullivan, Donald Sullivan, Harold Sullivan, and Glendo Sullivan; and three sisters, Alberta Woods, Doris McGowan, and Judy Sullivan.

Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Rodney Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkerson Cemetery. Per Glendal’s wishes, there will not be any graveside services.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, and will continue on Friday morning, from 7:30 A.M. until the time of the services, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to Wilkerson Cemetery, c/o Brenda Wade, 6594 E Hwy 80, Russell Springs, Kentucky 42642. Donations can also be made at the funeral home.
