Thomas Kindler Obituary

Thomas Kindler, 84, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Lutheran Living.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the New Era Lutheran Church in Muscatine.  Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.  Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the New Era Lutheran Church or Meals on Wheels (c/o Senior Resources) in memory of Thomas.  Online condolences can be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Thomas Jan Kindler was born on September 5, 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Clark) Kindler.  Thomas was a 1959 graduate of Muscatine High School.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  On November 11, 1961, Thomas was united in marriage to Janet Dorothy Hermann in Muscatine.  Thomas worked as a civilian employee of the United States Army at the Rock Island Arsenal for many years and also as a groundskeeper for the DNR at Wild Cat Den.  He was a member of New Era Lutheran Church and volunteered his skills for many woodworking projects.  He even won an award for some of his scroll saw work at the Festival of Trees.  He was a very generous person who often gave his wood projects away and spent many hours delivering Meals on Wheels. 

Thomas will be deeply missed by his son, David (M.J.) Kindler of Oak Park, Illinois; son-in-law, Rob Murphy of St. Charles, Illinois and grandchildren, Leah Kindler of Chicago, Illinois, Evan Kindler of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Alexander (Gabbie) Murphy of Nashville, Tennessee.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Murphy; sister, Mary Ann Bernard and the love of his life, wife Janet on March 28, 2024.
