Robert "Bob" James Stalnaker Obituary

Robert James Stalnaker, aka “Bobby” “Bandana Bob” “Tiefly” “Rasta Bob” “Bobsquatch” and “Uncle Bob” came into this world on December 26, 1961; and in typical Bob fashion, left us all wondering exactly when he left on this, his next greatest adventure. Bob was found on his bed in peaceful repose on May 12, 2024; joining his family, Roger, Patty, and Sandy, along with some of his best friends, Jim Dawg, Paul, and Cinncinatus in the hereafter, where they are undoubtedly celebrating.

A native of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Bob was an accomplished athlete in his youth, participating in both basketball and baseball youth leagues; as well as Washington Irving High School’s JV and Varsity basketball teams.  Bob’s love of competition and sports never diminished. Bob could regularly be found with his BW3 family, heckling or cheering, depending upon his mood. (“Go Sports Team!”) As Tiefly, Bob loved competing at various establishments, using his arsenal of obscure facts to best lesser mortals in any Trivia match.

Bob was a creative genius. Throughout Bob’s scholarly pursuits, whether during his undergraduate/post-graduate college work or during his teaching career,  Bob was a voracious reader and prolific writer. Poetry came as easily to Bob as breathing; and the legacy of his written word will endure.

Arguably, one of Bob’s greatest loves was fishing, although his love of music came in a close second.  Bob loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was loyal and generous to his friends; a comrade to his brothers in Sigma Pi.

Dog lover. Nature lover. Music lover. Fisherman. Punk. Poet extraordinaire. Teacher. Friend. Lover of all things weird, wild, and wonderful.  Robert James Stalnaker was a unique person who lived life to the fullest… and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 5:00pm until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 7:00pm. Graveside services will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:00am at the Bridgeport Cemetery.
