Doris Jean Poyer, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at the age of 89 in Duncan, Oklahoma, on May 12, 2024. Born on April 28, 1935, in Kilgore, Texas, Doris lived a vibrant and creative life dedicated to her family, her passions, and her community.


Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, with Reverend Zac Potts officiating. Burial will follow at the Marlow Cemetery, all arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow, Oklahoma. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 8:30 AM- 8:30 PM.


Doris was known for her spirited personality and generous heart. Her talents as a seamstress brought beauty and warmth into the lives of those around her. A graduate of Kilgore Public School, Doris imbued every stitch with love and care. Her involvement in various associations, including Bailey Community Church and Eastside Baptist Church, showcased her commitment to staying connected with her community and sharing her skills with others.


Her life was enriched by her interests, which included playing bingo, oil painting, gardening, sewing, spending time with her family, fishing, and passing on her love for these activities to her children and grandchildren. Doris also loved to travel in her RV, after selling the farm, and her and Howard traveled from Texas to Alaska and everywhere in between.


She leaves behind a legacy of love and creativity that will be carried on by her two sons, Tommy Poyer (and wife Debbie) of Marlow, and Steve Poyer of Spencer; her daughter, Donna Kreklau (and husband Leonard) of Elkhart, Kansas; and her eight grandchildren: Lisa Moore, Becky Usher, Joshua Poyer, Myrenda Jones, Jennie Cox, Doyle Jones Jr., Fred Cox III, and Doris Cox. Her numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren will also cherish memories of her zest for life. Doris is survived by her sister, Doretha Ingram of Kilgore, Texas, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.


Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Howard Poyer and Donald Maxwell, and her daughter-in-law Brenda Poyer. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.
