Vivian Mercer Bauer Obituary

Vivian Mercer Bauer passed away on January 28, 2024, in Milton, Florida where she was residing with her daughter Patricia Bauer Hill. Vivian passed away from the sequelae of dementia. She was born in Calera, Alabama on July 15, 1934. In 1954 she met and married the love of her life, Daniel Edward Bauer. They initially lived in Alabama, but moved to Georgia when Daniel began working for the Federal Aviation Administration in the late 1950s. After retirement, Vivian and Daniel moved to Pine Mountain, GA where they lived near Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park and Callaway Gardens until moving to Florida in 2009. They enjoyed the outdoors, activities in the greater Pine Mountain area, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and Alabama football.

Vivian Bauer was predeceased by her husband Daniel Bauer on December 3, 2012. They are survived by their daughters Laura Bauer McConatha (Barry McConatha) in Americus, GA; Frances Bauer (Jonathan Ramsden) in Athens, GA; and Patricia Bauer Hill (Mark Hill) in Milton, FL. Vivian is also survived by her grandchildren and their children; Michelle Ramsden (Freya Bell), Lindsay Godwin (Miller and Lainey Jo Godwin) and Zachary Hill.

Vivian was most proud of her role as Grammie to her three grands - Michelle, Lindsay, and Zachary.

She made it to school events, birthday parties, recitals, and ball tournaments up and down the east coast. She was the kind of grandmother that would play school or Skip Bo with you for hours and haul you to Callaway Gardens or the Wild Animal Safari no matter how hot it was. She’d sing you to sleep, share her Big Red gum, scratch your back, and would be the first person to purchase a candle or wrapping paper in your ridiculous school fundraiser, no matter how ugly it was.

Vivian was a powerful woman who lived a very full life. She was wise, witty, thoughtful, silly, patient, and caring. Her loyalty was unconditional and unwavering. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is finally resting in peace. Her family held a celebration of her life in Pine Mountain, GA on May 5, 2024, enjoying the scenery of FDR State Park and Callaway Gardens.
