Jacqueline France Ouellette Obituary

Jacqueline France Ouellette, 52, of Edgewater, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 after a sudden and brief two month battle with brain cancer.

Jacqueline was born on July 3, 1971, to Noel and Lucienne Lacan in Boston, Massachusetts. Jacqueline spent much of her early childhood growing up in Whitefield, New Hampshire where her family owned an inn and summer stock theater. As a child she loved the theater and was cast, in roles, in plays such as Annie, before her family chose to move to New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Jacqueline’s teenage years culminated with her graduation from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1989, where she met her high school sweetheart and eventual husband Bobby. In high school Jacqueline was a member of the swim team, officer for the foreign language club and long-time seasonal employee for Mon Delice Bakery for years.

Jacqueline went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communication from Flagler College and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University.

After a brief career in broadcast communication where she worked on broadcasts of the Florida Lottery and state legislative session, Jacqueline and her husband both began their teaching careers at Edgewater Public School in 1994. She went on to have an impressive, nearly thirty-year career as a classroom teacher, media specialist, teacher on assignment and most recently a French language teacher at Spruce Creek Elementary School. During teaching career Jacqueline was nominated for teacher of the year by her colleagues, as well as earned numerous awards and grants for projects completed by her student media clubs. Her career with Volusia County Schools took her to teaching assignments at five different Elementary schools including Coronado Beach Elementary School as well as both Hurst and Champion Elementary Schools.

In 1996, Jacqueline Ouellette married her high school sweetheart Bob Ouellette and spent their free time camping, traveling the US and Europe, attending FSU football games and being involved in area youth sports leagues her sons played in. Jacqueline was devoted wife and mother who personified all the positive attributes of an involved parent to her own children, and “mothering” teacher to the students she taught.

Jacqueline was predeceased by her father Noel Lacan. She is survived by her mother Lucienne Lacan, sister Yolande Lacan, husband Robert Ouellette and sons Jacques Ouellette and Luke Ouellette.

Services will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Jacqueline was an avid Florida State football fan and we encourage those attending the service to wear FSU apparel in honor of her fanatic fan status.
