Mrs. Holladay was born September 8, 1929, to Frank Columbus and Flavia Minor Gartman in Columbia, LA and passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 in Shreveport, LA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend with many interests. She had a love of music which started when her father bought her a piano at the age of 10. This grew into her playing piano for children’s Sunday school classes for many years and singing in church choirs until she was 92. She enjoyed dancing and listening to the Big Band music of her youth and young adulthood and could be seen dancing with her husband, Sam, at many community events for many years.

She graduated from LSU in 1950 and was a lifelong fan and alumnus, supporting Tiger athletics and alumni events. She enjoyed going on trips with the LSU alumni association. She also loved going on trips with church groups across the country and to Europe offering her a chance to see the world and make new friends.

Her greatest interest was her family and her church family. She loved getting together at holidays and raising her family in the church. She loved getting together at the yearly beach trips to Gulf Shores with her children and grandchildren. She was happiest when we were all together under the same roof sharing memories, laughing, and just being together.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Dr. Sam Holladay, Jr of Springhill; five children, Jo E. Dufour and husband, Paulo of Covington, LA, Dr. Lynne F. Holladay of Shreveport, LA, Gwynn M. Holladay, of Bossier City, LA, Dr. Robert C. Holladay and wife, Jo of Shreveport, LA  and Dr. Jeffery G. Holladay of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Marc Dufour, Elyse Collins and husband, Ryan, Camille Dufour, Madison Holladay, and Jack Holladay; great-granddaughter, Lily Collins; two nieces, Donna Schultz, Susan Gartman; and one nephew David Gartman.

Mrs. Holladay was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Holladay; sister, Johnnie Belle Gartman; brother, David Gartman; and sister-in-law, Billie Gartman.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Posner, Dr. Wayne Sessions,  Mr. Mike Washington, Mr. David Rhea, Mr. Robert Garland, and Mr. Randy Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ed Shultz Men’s Class at Springhill Methodist Church, the Men of the choir at Springhill Methodist Church and the Holly Mound Hunting Club of Lewisville, AR.

The family would like to thank Dr. James F. Smith, Dr. Ray Smith, Dr. Robert Hernandez, Dr. Richard Haynie, Dr. Charles Lyon, and Dr. Michelle Pardue who helped care for her over the past several years. Also they would like to thank the women of the Women’s Inspiration Sunday School Class.

The family requests that any gifts be directed to Springhill Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
