Jane Pudick Obituary

Jane Pudick, aged 85, passed away on December 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born on March 9, 1938, in New York City to Elizabeth and Louis Chontow, Jane grew up in Scarsdale, NY. Her life was one of dedication, learning, and a deep love for both family and exploration. Jane earned a B.A. in Education from Boston University and later a Masters Degree in International Relations from New York University. Her commitment to early childhood education blossomed as she taught Kindergarten and First Grade in the Edgemont school district, before focusing on raising her own family. Beyond her early teaching career, Jane was an active force in advocating for women's rights and political engagement. Her involvement as President of the local League of Women Voters and support for many womens local, state and national campaigns continued a dedication to progress and equality fostered by her mother and grandmother. Her love story with Jack Pudick began serendipitously on a Nantucket beach in the summer of 1964 while playing Bridge, and they were married on December 27th the same year. Their honeymoon up the Amazon River through South American initiated a lifetime of shared interests, especially their love for traveling the world. Jane shared her passion for travel with others, eventually owning two travel agencies in Westchester. Her fifteen years at Travel Horizons with her dedicated team of agents were among her happiest. Jane found immense joy in sharing cultural experiences with her children, from theatre and museums in New York to summers spent with Nana on Marthas Vineyard. Her creative spirit thrived into her later years as she continued her lifelong interest in pottery. "Janie and Jack" explored continents and cultures, and continued to play bridge for over 30 years, with an ever-growing circle of friends in Northern Westchester, building a lifetime of memories until Janes health began to decline in 1993. Jane is survived by her devoted husband Jack of Somers, NY, her loving children Leanne McGowan and James Pudick, her cherished granddaughters Hannah, Julia, and Eliza McGowan, as well as her brother Peter Chontow. A graveside service will be held on January 3, 2024, at 11 am at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on- Hudson, NY. In remembrance of her warmth, intelligence, and unwavering love, Jane will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Graveside Service Wednesday, January 3, 2024 11:30 AM Mount Hope Cemetery 50 Jackson Ave. Hastings on Hudson, NY 10706
