Elizabeth Craft Obituary

Elizabeth "Schatzi" Craft, of Armonk, NY passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, with family close by at the age of 97.

Elizabeth was born January 24, 1926 in Dresden, Germany to the late Herbert and Eliazbeth Stahr. Elizabeth came from a large immediate family and for a time lived under Hitler's and Russian Communist rule. She was one of the eleven in her family to escape from East to West Germany under machine gun fire by the Soviets. In February 1945, Elizabeth became a refugee for months after the fire-bombing of Dresden resulted in the complete loss of her family's home and possessions.

Elizabeth was living in Bremerhaven, Germany, with her mother, in 1954 when she met a member of the US Air Force SS, William Craft. Their love story blossomed, and they married on April 17, 1956. Soon afterwards Elizabeth and Bill arrived in the United States. Elizabeth promptly became a US citizen and received what she had dreamt about ... Freedom!

Together they settled in Armonk, NY, which was William's hometown. Elizabeth was a strong supporter of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where she volunteered. She and her husband, Bill, spent 67 glorious years together in love living as one.

Elizabath is survived by her husband William Craft; her son Glenn & his wife Christine of Brewster, NY; son Bernie and his wife Roberta of Greenwood, SC; brother Bernt Stahr of New Orleans; and her grandchildren Lauren, Alyssa and husband Ryan Steere.
