Helen M. Wachtel Obituary

Helen Margaret Wachtel was born November 9th, 1945 in Germany to her parents, Mikolaj and Anna Marhal. It was just after World War 2, and times were very hard for everyone. When Helen was about 4, the Marhal family moved from Germany to the United States of America, Mom, Dad, Helen, and new addition to the family, little brother Joseph. They settled in the south side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Soon after, their younger brother Mark was born, completing their family. While growing up, Helen had a passion for acting. After studying at Marquette University for two years, Helen`s passion for acting was too strong, she moved to New York to pursue her dreams. It was there where she met Harry Wachtel, they fell in love and soon married. They started their own family when Fred was born followed soon after by Greg. She was raising a family, and studying acting at the same time. Helen eventually started to get some real paying acting jobs- She did it- she had become a professional actor!! Helen even had a small role on a soap opera called Search for Tomorrow, and various other acting roles in movies and commercials. In addition to acting, she was a very accomplished piano player. The marriage to Harry did not last, and Helen became a single, working mother, living in an apartment in Mt. Kisco, NY. She had 2 passions, her boys and acting, and continued acting where she studied with the great Stella Adler during the day, racing to the train to get home and cook dinner for her boys. One day, this very dapper, and very handsome man moved in down the hall. Every day He wore a suit and tie with a red handkerchief sticking out of his suite jacket pocket, what a catch!! His name was Philip. It was not long until Helen and Philip started dating. Philip had 2 daughters of his own, Dana and Danielle. Helen and Phillip dated and lived together for over 20 years, and then Phil popped the question, and they were married. During those 20 years, Phil took on the fatherhood role to Fred and Greg, while Helen loved Dana and Danielle very much. Their kids grew up, married, and built their own families. Helen and Phil were the proud loving doting grandparents of Jason, Emma, Hannah and Matthew. Besides her family and acting, Helen had one giant passion, SHOPPING. No one could shop and find bargains like Helen. Whether it was clothes, home goods, you name it, Helen was shopping, haggling, and buying everything in sight, and Phil with her for the ride, no one knew how Phil did it. Helen and Phil eventually retired and bought their dream house, in a lake community. Unfortunately this was when Helen`s health had started to decline, slowly but steadily. It eventually got too hard for Helen to travel to their lake house or even to visit with her family and friends. Over time, the disease took over rendering Helen an occupant in a strangers body. Phil dedicated his life to caring for his beloved Helen, never leaving her side. The disease became too strong, and Helen lost her long battle. Philip and the rest of the family are devastated, but relieved to know the suffering is over and she is now in a better place. Helen is survived by her adoring husband, Philip, their four children, Fred, Greg, Dana and Danielle and three grandchildren Jason, Emma, and Matthew and Hannah She will forever be in our hearts. Rest Easy and pain free now. We love you Helen, now watch over us.
