Antonino Curro Obituary

Antonino Curro, a resident of Mt. Kisco, NY for 44 years, left this world peacefully, surrounded by his wife, children, daughter-in-law and siblings on Friday, August 12, 2016 and joined his mother and father in heaven. He was 82 years old. Born in Scilla (Reggio Calabria), Italy and preceded in death by his father and mother, Santo and Pasqualina Curro (nee Ciccone). He was loyal to his patron saint, St. Rocco. Antonino, with little formal education, worked hard from a very young age to help support his family. He served in the Italian Army. He made many sacrifices and left his birthplace to provide for a better life for his wife and children. After he arrived in the United States in 1972, he worked at Fox Lane High School from 1973-1995, where he was loved by teachers, administrators and students for his hard work and giving attitude. He loved his family and constantly strived to provide for them, sometimes working multiple landscaping jobs and long hours in addition to his full time job. As the oldest of his siblings, he always looked after his brother and sisters and cared for his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed bird and mushroom hunting, international soccer (especially following the Italian national team, Azzurri), and vegetable gardening for most of his life. He was a member for many years of the Italian-American Club of Northern Westchester. He rarely sat still and always strived to find more efficient ways to get work done, sometimes in very enterprising and entertaining ways, much to the amusement of his family, friends and co-workers. He was tough and commanded high standards, but was known best for being decent, hardworking and generous. He was strong and never gave in to his physical limitations, even as he insisted on climbing ladders or driving a tractor at the age of 82. He defied the odds his whole life, and showed incredible courage in fighting a painful disease for the last four years. His only regret was that he was unable to have more healthy years in his retirement to enjoy time with his family and summers in Italy. In his final days, he shared many words of wisdom with his family who stayed by his side as he prepared them for his departure. Amongst his final words were, "respect one another", "love one another", and "life is beautiful", words we can all live by. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Francesca Curro (nee Scarfone), his children and their spouses, Lena Parry (Mark) of Holmdel, New Jersey, Santo Curro (Carol) of Katonah, New York and Antonia Barry (Matthew) of Annapolis, Maryland, and six grandchildren, Amanda and Christina Parry, Emily and Christopher Curro, and Ryan and Megan Barry. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Carmine Curro (Serafina), Flavia Scarfone, Antonia Curra, and Grace Paolucci (Gino), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Dominick Curra and Frank Scarfone. He adored his family and loved them all equally. He also appreciated the love and support he received from his caregivers. Visitations will be held at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home at 288 East Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549 on Sunday, August 14th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 15th at 10:00AM at Saint Francis of Assisi at 2 Green St, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549, with burial at Gates of Heaven at 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532. Kisco, NY 10549, where he received quality and gentle care during many hospital stays, or to Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam, 540 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, NY 10591, who provided comfort care in his final days.
