George L. Griffin Jr. Obituary

On the evening of December 24, 2014, George died at home from cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones. George was 67 years old. George was born on October 16, 1947, in White Plains NY to George and Marjorie Griffin. He was the middle of five children. George was drafted into the military when he was 19 years old and served in Vietnam as a Military Policeman in the army. George was assigned to Company A of the 720th MP Battalion, 18 MP Brigade at Long Binh, the largest US military base in Vietnam. He received the Army commendation medal for his service during the Tet Offensive and was recently inducted into the Hudson Valley Veterans Hall of Fame. After his service George worked in the building material industry and later became a retailer of one in Mount Kisco. He married his wife Grace in May 1989. George has two children: George L. Griffin III his wife Colleen (Hickey) and Catherine Mary Griffin. George also has two grandchildren Hunter 6, and Zoey 4. George is survived by two sisters. Diane (Cissie) Roach and husband Tom of Canandaigua, NY. Dawn Griffin-Parnell and husband Bruce of Danbury, CT During his time in Mount Kisco he belonged to the Moses Taylor American Legion post and has served on the town Planning Board and the Village Board of trustees as Deputy Mayor for many, many years. George was also a member of the Lions Club. Though George was active in so many external organizations his family was very important to him. George believed in getting together as often as possible. Thanksgiving was a holiday he looked forward to each year, but so was the Fourth of July and all of the other holidays. Food was love for George and he loved to cook and see people enjoy the food and people around them.
