David Buchalter Obituary

King David Chapels LLC is honored to serve the family of David Buchalter We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. David (Dave) Buchalter, of Walden, NY passed away Saturday June 10, 2023 with his family surrounding him with love. He was 95. The son of Louis and Pauline Buchalter, David was born January 19, 1928 in Manhattan, NY. Dave served in the US Army from 1950-1952, being stationed in Europe after World War II. He loved sharing stories of his deployment and the cities he visited. Upon his return, Dave moved to Miami Beach and began a career in the restaurant business. It was there he met his wife, Muriel, while she was on vacation with her family. They were married a few years later and moved to Queens, NY. Once in Queens, Dave began working in his family's diners. Eventually Dave owned and operated the Thompson Hill Diner in Long Island City, NY. In 1969, Dave moved his wife, Muriel, his daughter Maurene and sons Gregory and Scott to Walden, NY. In 1974, Dave sold the diner. He and Muriel eventually divorced but remained close. It was then that Dave began the best job of his life, being a grandfather (Papa Dave). He spent many days watching and enjoying Maurenes three children, Jessica, Brian and Jennifer. Making them cheese omelets or some other tasty meal was his passion. His cheese omelets were legendary, known to buckle many knees. Dave eventually had eight grandchildren over the years as well as five great grandchildren. Papa Dave always had a smile on his face and would love to tell stories and give life lessons to all his grandchildren. Papa Dave had many Papa-isms. Take care of what you have. If it happened once, it could happen again. Its a different ballgame. If you want perfection, go to a museum. The best one was "A1". If something was very good, it was A1. The doctor was A1, the food was A1, the service was A1. Well Pop, You were A1!!!! Survivors include his son, Scott Buchalter and his wife Dori Buchalter of Wallkill, NY. His son Dr. Gregory Buchalter and his wife Connie Buchalter of Colorado Springs, CO. His son in law Jeffrey Dobens of Maybrook, NY. His grandchildren- Jessica Ronaldson and her husband Al Ronaldson, Brian Dobens and his wife Karla Dobens, Jennifer Dobens, Allison Ivan and Dr. Sam Ivan, Ryan Buchalter and his wife Molly Kate Buchalter, Cameron Buchalter, Benjamin and Bryce Buchalter. His great grandchildren-AJ, Ava and Luke Ronaldson, Amelia Dobens and Everly Dobens, as well as many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Maurene Dobens, predeceased him. Burial will be at Mt. Judah Cemetery in Queens, NY in a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden NY 12589.
