Joseph M. DeFrancesco Obituary

Joseph M. De Francesco August 30, 1960 - September 16, 2013 You will not find many pictures of Joe as he was always the one taking them. His childhood passion for photography evolved into a career. He graduated with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and worked on Madison Avenue as a photographer at a prestigious midtown advertising agency. Due to complications from diabetes, he lost his sight in his 30s. His independence and mobility was imperative. Joe had help with several generations of four-legged friends Cooper, Pryor and Kent, all Golden Labradors from Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, California. While in rehabilitation at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, MA he met Sherry Bourgeois and they were married for 15 years. Joe was a founding member of the Westchester Council for the Blind. After years of suffering and emotional let-downs, the past three months were filled with hope. His optimism and enthusiasm were contagious and he had the courage to go for it when they called him back for a double transplant, a kidney and pancreas. Joe liked the color royal blue, a drive with the top down and making granny's nut roll recipe to remind us all of holiday traditions. His garden was always filled with fresh basil, red ripe tomatoes... and this year, watermelons. Joe was the third of five sons born to Carmen and Florence De Francesco of Mt. Kisco, NY. He is survived by James and Petra, John and Siobhan, Jordan and Joann, Jeffrey and Isabelle, Aunt Marie and Uncle Nick Palmieri, nieces and nephews Cara, Bethany, Alicia, Giancarlo, Nicholas, Carlee, godson Massimo, and guide dog Kent. We will all miss him. Join us for a brief visit, share a story and a prayer, Saturday September 21, at 9:00AM. Cassidy-Flynn funeral home, 288 East Main street, Mt.
