Opal Holbrook Skaggs, age 87, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. Claire Heathcare in Morehead, Kentucky.


She was born Friday, August 14,1936, in Green, Kentucky in Elliott County, to the late James William “Willie” and Dazel Greene Holbrook.


Opal was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Christian. She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized in March 1981 at Lower Rock Lick Enterprise Baptist Church in Fleming County, Kentucky. Opal loved sharing the love of the Lord with anyone that she came in contact with. She enjoyed going to church, singing the praises of the Lord with her family, cooking for and spending time with her family, gardening and working in her flowers.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dazel Mae Mauk; two great-grandsons, Randy Sammons, Thomas Holbrook and two brothers, Charlie Holbrook, JB Manning: three sisters, Glenna Dean, Wanda Johnson and infant sister, Edna Faye Holbrook; and her son-in-law, Ed Williams.


Opal is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Joyal “Joe” Skaggs; two sons, Joyal “Joey” Skaggs of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Glen Willie (Loretta) Skaggs of Elliott County, Kentucky; four daughters, Della Faye Williams of Richmond, Kentucky, Patrica Ann (Johnny) Holbrook of Olive Hill, Kentucky; Melissa Van (Jim Tom) Caudill of Morehead, Kentucky, Karen Sue (Eric) Fulcher of Prospect, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Talmadge Holbrook of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Jack Holbrook of Sevierville, Tennessee, Joe Holbrook of Elliott County, Kentucky; three sisters, Ina Bell Brockwell of White Pine, Tennessee, Donna Addington of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Karen Stephens of Grayson, Kentucky, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.


Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Ronnie Easterling and Brother Willie Skaggs and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Joyal Skaggs Family Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky.


Friends may visit after 6 p.m., Sunday, May 12, 2024, and after 9 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.


Grandsons and Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
