James Sanford Colbert Obituary

James Sanford Colbert 86, of Leetonia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:56 AM Sunday, May 5, 2024, from his home, surrounded by family.

 

He was born on January 24, 1938, in Central City, PA, the son of James William and Ruth (Adams) Colbert.

 

James graduated in 1956 from Franklin HS, Johnston, PA where he lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He coached junior league baseball in Johnston, PA, and Jim was an assistant coach for 4 years for basketball and coached t-ball and baseball for 10 years in Salem. He was the youngest official in the PIAA. Jim was a retired auto assembly plant worker from GM Lordstown. He was also a Catholic by faith, had been a member of Salem St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

 

James is survived by his wife of over 67 years, the former Donna Louise Boyer, whom he married on November 3, 1956, their children: Dianne C. (Irvin) Maurer of Hermitage, PA, Elizebeth (Scott Bricker) Miller of Salem, Curtis (Denise) Colbert of Salem, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, sisters: Cookie Adams of Salem and Gloria Butler of Johnstown, PA, his brother Gene Colbert SR of Florida, and his sister-in-law, Gudrun Colbert of Salem.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children: Thomas Allen Colbert and Christopher Douglas Colbert, siblings: Roy Colbert, Delores Oldham and Doris Ling.

 

A private family funeral service was held on Friday morning, May 10, 2024, with Father Thomas Eisweirth officiating. The burial followed in Grandview Cemetery in Salem.

 

The arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
